1. Congratulations on securing a top rank in the CA Inter exam. Were you expecting this rank?
I was very well prepared before the exam and confident after taking the exam. I was expecting a rank, possibly in a single digit; but AIR-1 came as a huge surprise. All the hard work I had put in was worth it. More than that, when I see my family, especially my father and all my teachers rejoicing with me, it gives me happiness that I could make them proud.
2. Can you tell us briefly about your background; about your education and family?
My family has been my rock. After my mothers’ demise in 2015, my father has stepped in to fulfil the role of both parents for my elder brother and me. My elder brother is fulfilling my mother’s dream of becoming a doctor and I am fulfilling my father’s dream of becoming a CA. My father himself has been a CA-aspirant and he continues to dream of clearing it himself one day. After a decent score in the 10th board examination, it was imminent that Commerce would be my next choice; post which I started preparing for the CA Exams.
3. What made you decide to go for Chartered Accountancy?
Since Class 11th I knew that I only wanted to pursue Commerce and never even considered Science as an option. My father is an accountant, and it was his dream that I pursue Chartered Accountancy. His faith in me and my aim to fulfil his dream were my biggest motivations. My father himself has been a CA-aspirant and he continues to dream of clearing it himself one day.
4. What was your preparation strategy for the exam?
As a CA AIR 1 student, I found that consistency was the cornerstone of my success in the CA Inter exam. I studied 12-13 hours each day. By setting a daily study schedule and adhering to it without fail, I ensured continuous progress in mastering complex subjects. I used to write all the things that the teachers discussed in our classes and then, during self-study, I would highlight the important points. This disciplined approach minimised last-minute cramming and maximised my understanding and retention of the material. I also think that classes, either online or offline, are essential for intermediate levels, and I suggest it to everyone. I took online classes from Physics Wallah that helped me secure the top rank. Also, it is very important to stay focused during your preparation. I uninstalled Instagram and Facebook and only kept WhatsApp for communication purposes.
5. Was there any daily study timetable that you followed during your preparation?
Regular classes and preventing any backlog were my mantra. I never missed a lecture of my lessons and I used to write all the things that the teachers discussed in our online classes of PW and then, during self-study, I would highlight the important points.
6. How did you cope with exam stress and pressure that CA aspirants usually go through during their preparation?
Any and every competitive exam comes along with pressure and stress. It is important to stay focused on the end goal and enjoy the journey. While the climb is hard, support and guidance from family and teachers take you to the top. I want to continue acing every exam in my life and make my father proud.
7. What is your opinion about the new ICAI scheme of education and training? Did you feel any difference in the CA Inter exam under the new scheme as compared to the old scheme?
The syllabus of CA Inter under the new ICAI scheme is almost similar; only the number of papers have been reduced. Therefore, there is not much of a difference, just the MCQs in every paper consisting of 30 marks play a big role in clearing the exam.
8. Where do you plan to do your practical training?
My current goal is to successfully clear the CA Final, which I believe will be a significant stepping stone towards securing a position in a prestigious multin
9. Can you tell us about your future career plans?
ational company. The next steps in my journey include starting my articleship and undergoing computer training. My aim is for opportunities in one of the Big 4 accounting firms, which I believe will be actively seeking top talent.
My primary goal is to successfully clear the CA Final, a crucial milestone towards securing a position in a prestigious multinational company. I am confident that achieving this will unlock exciting job opportunities and pave the way for a promising career. Additionally, my aspirations are deeply personal. As I mentioned earlier, while my elder brother is fulfilling our mother's dream of becoming a doctor, I am dedicated to fulfilling my father's dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
10. What are your favourite pastimes? Any hobbies?
I enjoy watching and playing cricket. I think now I will also re-install social media as I had deleted that during the course of my preparation.
11. What message would you like to give to CA aspirants preparing for their exams?
My only piece of advice for all my peers is to consistently attend all classes and ensure that no backlog accumulates. Staying up-to-date with coursework is crucial for understanding concepts thoroughly and succeeding in your studies. Also, revision, especially one-two months before the examination is important. I used to write all the things that the teachers discussed in our classes and then, during self-study, I would highlight the important points. Aspirants should also keep giving mock tests as it increases one’s test-taking speed as well. If one studies diligently, even they can secure their desired result.
