CA Final to be Held Thrice a Year: ICAI Announces Major Changes in Examination System

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has notified major changes in the CA Final exam schedule from 2025 onwards through a press release on its official website - icai.org. The CA Final exams will now be conducted three times a year starting from 2025, instead of the current twice-a-year schedule. This new change aligns the CA Final exam cycle with the CA Intermediate and Foundation levels. Now, all three levels - Final, CA Foundation, and CA Intermediate will have an equal number of attempts each year, providing students more opportunities to sit in the exam. As per the new schedule, all these exams will be held in January, May, and September.

Also, traditionally, the CA Final exams were held twice a year (May and November). With more frequent exams, students will no longer have to wait for an entire semester before they can take the exam, which will allow them to advance more quickly in their careers.

What is the reason behind this major decision by ICIAI?

ICAI has made this decision to modernise its examination process, ensuring better accessibility and reduced stress for students. By increasing the frequency of exams, students who miss an attempt due to unexpected events will now have a shorter waiting period before they can reappear.

Benefits of Increased CA Final Exam Frequency
These are some of the advantages of increased CA Final exam cycles that will benefit the CA aspirants:

  • With more frequent exams, students can complete their CA qualification more quickly.

  • Regular exams will make sure aspirants continuously study and revise their knowledge. This will help them stay up-to-date with the new CA Final syllabus.

  • Frequent CA Final exams mean that students are revisiting and applying knowledge frequently, which is proven to improve long-term retention.

  • More frequent exams allow students to identify areas of weakness early on and work on them before the next attempt.
