This marks a significant decline, particularly in Group 1, which dropped over 4% from the May 2025 attempt, which saw a pass rate of 14.67%.

Historically Lower September Session Percentage
September sessions have consistently shown lower pass percentages. For example, in September 2024, only 5.66% of candidates cleared both groups. The September 2025 pass percentage for Group 1 declined to 9.43% compared to 15.17% in the previous year.
Higher Number of Candidates
Around 93,000 candidates appeared for Group 1 in September 2025. This large number shows the high interest in the CA Intermediate exam. It also led to differences in preparation levels and overall performance among students.
Short Preparation Window
Students who wrote the exam in May 2025 and reappeared in September 2025 had only a few months to prepare. The short gap reduced their time for proper revision and study. This may have affected their scores, especially for those working or doing articleship.
Higher Difficulty Level
According to many students, Group 1 papers in the September 2025 session were more difficult and lengthy, particularly in subjects like Accounting, Taxation, and Law. Such papers tend to bring down overall scores even among well-prepared candidates, contributing to the low pass percentage.
Stricter Evaluation Standards
There are speculations that ICAI may have tightened its evaluation criteria this session to maintain consistency in grading standards across all attempts. The focus on conceptual clarity and presentation quality could have led to lower marking in descriptive papers.
