Candidates must satisfy both the subject-wise and aggregate passing requirements prescribed by ICAI. A candidate is required to secure at least 40 marks out of 100 in each paper and a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, i.e., 200 marks out of 400, across all four papers. Candidates who fail to meet either of these conditions will not be declared qualified, irrespective of their overall score.
Particulars | Requirement |
Minimum marks in each paper | 40% (40 out of 100) |
Overall aggregate marks | 50% (200 out of 400) |
Negative marking | Applicable to objective papers |
Qualifying status | Must satisfy both conditions |
The CA Foundation pass percentage has largely remained between 15% and 22% over the last five examination sessions, with January 2026 recording a pass rate of 19.23%. If the May 2026 pass percentage remains around this range, it would indicate that ICAI has maintained a similar evaluation standard and examination difficulty level. A comparison with CA Foundation 2026 previous years also shows that pass percentages above 25% have become relatively uncommon in recent sessions.
